Flu Vaccine changes for 2018/19

This year Public Health England are providing different flu vaccines for three different at risk groups; Children under 18 years, adults and young people under 65 years and over 65 years.

The practice will be holding clinics in September, October and November and invitations are being sent out to patients in batches to ensure that everyone who is entitled to a vaccine manages to get booked into the appropriate clinic and that we adequate vaccines available on site. We have to work in line with the delivery dates given by the vaccine companies and our refrigerated storage capacity. 

If you have not received an invitation by mid October and you think you should be eligible, please do ring and check with our patient services staff in reception.


Changes to appointments system from 11th June 2018

In response to our longer than desirable wait for routine appointments we have reviewed our system and are implementing a new appointment diary from 11th June 2018.  More information can be found by going into the appointments page above.


Possible additional parking for UGR Patients

Upper Gordon Road GP Partner Dr Fraser met with Surrey Heath Borough Council colleagues to discuss the possibility of additional allocated parking in Upper Gordon Road opposite the surgery to assist with parking congestion in Upper Gordon Road and public safety. The request for up to 6 allocated parking spaces including disabled parking was favourably received and we await the outcome of this being taken through the necessary council processes before hearing the outcome. This may take some time perhaps into the mid spring of 2018, but we are hopeful that this request will be supported and passed by the council to the benefit of both patients and local residents.


 

Changes to Car Parking availability

With immediate effect, there are changes to the car parking facilities at the surgery. Patients will be aware that there is very limited parking on the surgery premises and we have taken the decision to make two key changes to the parking availability:

1. The parking time limit is now reduced to 90 minutes in an attempt to discourage people leaving their cars parked in spaces and walking into town to do shopping and blocking the spaces for other patients.

2. There are new parking signs which we would encourage patients to be aware of and to try and leave the parking spaces for those patients who are frail, elderly, disabled or pregnant or with young children under 2 years.

We would actively encourage patients to use the 2 hour parking along Upper Gordon Road or Middle Gordon Road or to use other side roads around the surgery.

We are unable to provide any additional on site parking and we therefore need to try and utilise the parking spaces available for those less able patients.

UNSOLICITED MAIL ABOUT PRESCRIPTIONS

If you have received a letter from Pharmacy 2U with this logo   Pharmacy2U

you DO NOT need to complete the attached form unless you choose to do so. It is your choice where you get your prescriptions and electronic prescribing (where your prescription goes electronically to the pharmacy without the printed green prescription form that you are used to) is available from nearly all pharmacies.

 

If you currently use a local pharmacy for your prescriptions you can continue to do so. Most local pharmacies allow you to call to order a repeat prescription, use electronic prescribing, and some also deliver to patients. Speak to your pharmacy about the services they provide.


Changes to Appointments System

We changed our appointment system in the last 12 months in an attempt to manage the expanding workload on Doctors and Nurses and to increase the availability of routine pre-bookable appointments.

Urgent appointments bookable on the day will be for URGENT medical problems that cannot wait and patients may be asked by receptionists for a brief description of the problem to ensure the patient is directed to the appropriate help this may be a doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Paramedic Practitioner.

Patients who attend urgent appointments with no urgent medical problems may be challenged by the clinician. Patients may be directed to an alternative options for treatment such as the pharmacist for self care and provided with information leaflets for the future.

Routine GP appointments are bookable 4 to 6 weeks in advance and are 12 minutes long. On the day appointments are for urgent health problems that cannot wait until the next available routine appointment . They are for 1 problem only and are 7 minutes long.


Be Self Care Aware

With the ever increasing demands on GP practices and hospital A&E departments, we are encouraging patients to be more SELF CARE AWARE. In other words, encouraging patients to seek help and advice from others places other than the doctor or the hospital. Pharmacists are a great source of knowledge and help for minor illnesses and ailments from sun burn to back pain, patients do not always need to see a doctor or nurse.

We have included on the website a number of self help information leaflets for common illnesses and ailments which you can print off and keep at home. Click on number 12 Be Self Aware in the right hand panel of the website for access to this information. Leaflets are also available in the surgery reception area. Please help yourself.


Car Parking

Due to the pressure of limited car parking spaces at the surgery we have found it necessary to implement some parking restrictions. There is a 60 minute maximum stay in the car park for patients attending the surgery premises or to use the pharmacy. The parking spaces should be for elderly and frail patients, those with mobility or site conditions or mothers with young babies. Please park courteously and carefully to avoid damage to both your own vehicle and others.


  

European Health Insurance Rules

On the 1st July 2014 changes have been made to the European Health Insurance rules. Previously, if you required healthcare abroad and held an E111 or an EHIC card you could apply to reclaim any co-payments made whilst abroad for your healthcare. This has now stopped.

***Care Data Extraction ****

Just to remind you - the care.data programme will extract data from GP practices and combine it with data already extracted from hospitals and other care providers.  The data will be sent securely to the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) which will process the data and release it in a pseudonymised format to support commissioning, research, public health etc, in order to improve patient care. Opting Out

If patients do not want their identifiable data to be used in this way they can choose to “opt-out”.  To do this they need to inform their GP surgery.  Remember that there are two different options, depending on whether the you want to stop identifiable data from the leaving the GP practice, or whether just want to stop it from leaving the HSCIC, or both.
